Authority 2.0 Conference at Birmingham City University

Posted at 27th April 2010

Authority 2.0 Conference is being held at Birmingham City University on Weds 28th April at 10am until 1pm.

I am delighted to have been asked to sit on the panel for the debate “Terrorist or Photographer?” with the other panelists:

Chief Inspector Mark Payne – Head of Press & PR, West Midlands Police

Christian Payne - Social technologist and mobile media maker

Emma Mulqueeny – Home Office Consultant & Co-owner of rewiredstate.org

DCI Ian Grundy - Counter Terrorism Unit, West Midlands Police

Chairperson – Jigar Patel (MA Social Media, BCU).

From the Authority 2.0 website:

“The Authority 2.0 Conference is a half day event for police officers, local neighbourhood community managers, councillors, voluntary sector group leaders, members of the public, academics and press – anyone wanting to share and expand their knowledge on social media communications, and how organisations in authority communicate using these platforms. This event is also targeted towards local businesses, social enterprises and individuals who are curious about the digital phenomenon and wanting to learn a little more about how Web 2.0 works. For those investigating how to engage further with those in authority, this is an ideal way to do so.”

“Veterans and newcomers alike will be able to learn about how audio and video podcasting, blogging and social media platforms are being used as good practice by similar organisations and areas, and will be able to explore if these are proving to be successful in reaching their goals.”

It’s going to be a very interesting and infomative half day! There are still free tickets available if you wish to come along :)

4am Project at the Museum Collections Centre! 4am on 24th April

Posted at 20th April 2010

The 4am Project will be hosting a special 4am event this Saturday 24th April (at 4am!) on behalf of the Birmingham City of Culture bid!

The event will take place at Birmingham Museum Collections Centre. This is a rare opportunity to photograph the wealth of archived articals and artifacts that are not on show to the public at the Birmingham Museum. From classic motor vehicals, to stuffed animals and interesting curiosities! It’s a huge place, with plenty to see and photograph. The Museums Collection centre usually only lets the public in 2 or 3 times a year, and have been kind enough to open it’s doors to the 4am Project this Saturday!

From the Birmingham Museum Collections Centre website:

The 1.5 hectare site, close to Duddeston Station, holds hundreds of thousands of objects. Among the collections are steam engines, sculptures, an entire collection of Austin, Rover and MG motor cars, a red phone box and even a Sinclair C5

THERE ARE ONLY 30 TICKETS AVAILABLE on this occasion. Get your tickets now, first come, first served, and don’t forget to set your alarm clocks!

NOTE: Please upload your photographs to flickr and tag them 4amproject and for this occasion, please also use the tag bmag as the City Of Culture bid team would like to showcase some of the photos from the event. For more instructions about flickr and tagging, please visit the 4am Project website.

There is a car park on the site, but please be on time as the car park will close and be locked for the duration of the event.

Please visit Eventbrite to register for you free ticket!

I hope you can come along, experience the 4am Project and meet other photographers! :)

Arno Carstens at the Symphony Hall Birmingham

Posted at 09th April 2010

The supporting act for Ultravox at the Symphony Hall was a South African singer called Arno Carstens.

I hadn’t heard of him before, but the people in the front row who I sat next to clearly had. They were big fans and had only really come to see Arno; “There’s some other band on afterwards, quite big apparently, don’t know their name.”

Just Arno and his guitar & his voice. Oh and another guitarist, who was standing next to Arno, but who you could hardly see as the spotlight was just on Arno. Sorry old chap, no photos of you - couldn’t see you with Arno hogging the spotlight ;)
