22nd Anniversary Bulldog Bash 2008

Posted at 11th August 2008

I’m going to get into the swing of things with this blog and post on a more regular basis. There’s lots going on, so I should have plenty to write about and lots of pics to post too.

I’ll do a post where I backtrack and cover some recent events, but as I want to make each post a single topic on its own, I’ll do a ‘catch up’ post another time soon.

So….

I went into the Birmingham Post and Mail on Friday (I am going in one day a week to continue my work experience in the photography field). Whilst in the office, one of the photographers, J, said he was going to cover the Bulldog Bash the next day. My ears pricked up! I have ALWAYS wanted to go to the Bulldog Bash. I had a quick word with the picture editor and my request was granted – I could go to the Ball Bash!

If you are unfamiliar with the Bulldog Bash, it’s one of the largest gatherings of bikers in Europe held over four days near Stratford Upon Avon. The Hells Angels organise and police the event themselves.

I met J on Saturday morning and off we went. I must admit to being a little over excited at getting my first Press Pass and wrist band, not to mention a lovely luminous waist coat with ‘Press’ on the back. What can I say, it’s the small things that make me happy.

It had rained the day before, and during the morning but luckily the rain stopped when we got there. Needless to say the fields were VERY muddy. This didn’t seem to dampen people’s spirits though.

Off we trouped with our for the afternoon. J lent me his 80-200mm, and fish eye lenses for part of the afternoon. I’ve only got one 18-135mm lense at the moment, which is a good all-rounder, but it was good to get some experience with other lenses and what they can do. I found the 80-200mm quite weighty compared to my lens. I think I will need to get to the gym and start building up my muscles in preparation for the day I get a bigger lens!

Anyway, on with the ’show’.

I am really pleased with these shots of the band A470. Gig photography is an area I want to get into more, but I can already see an improvement since my last set of photos.

I like the contrast between the mobility scooter and the big rig!

Crowds enjoying the display on the race track. Can you sopt the girl flashing her bra?!

If you get the chance, you MUST see The Wall Of Death. Amazing. And scary.

Peeing, drinking, relaxing. That tree was very popular!

Of course, I couldn’t go without making the acquaintance of some Hells Angels. They are pussy cats really, but don’t tell them I said that! :-)
